What is unexpected about your life at age 79? What pleasantly surprises you about getting older? And what scares you about growing older?
I have never been too concerned about my age. I’ve always been physically active so have not felt limited as to what I can or cannot do at any given milestone. The thing that surprises me the most as I’ve gotten older is how much freedom I have--to do anything I choose. Ten years ago, I bought a small farm in wine country, planted an olive grove, and now produce olive oil. I also built an art gallery on my property, where I host four shows a year, featuring artists from around the country. And, I have somehow managed to encourage family and several friends to move nearby. Together, we have created together an extended collective of like-minded individuals who support each through love of food, dogs, art, giving back, and the outdoors.
I’m not scared about growing older. I hope to be physically active and engaged in meaningful projects all my life.

Booker, A Golden Retriever, my last dog, and forever my best friend.
